Martin Murray is definitely fighting Peter Mitrevski Jr for the the British Commonwealth middleweight title in the Bolton Arena on the 16th July 2010. Murray was left hugely frustrated after his light shot at the title was cancelled when opponent Francis Cheka was refused entry into the country just days before the scheduled bout. Dale Noble, a Sheffield fighter from the Ingle gym stepped in last minute for a non-title fight, but Martin was in superb shape having clearly trained very hard for the fight and broke him down with thunderous body shots in just three rounds (Noble was pulled out of the fight with a damaged rib, see the fight review for more info). Ricky Hatton promised Martin that the title shot would be rescheduled as quickly as possible, and true to his word the fight has been setup.
Peter Mitrevski Jr is ranked 5th in Australia, and is the son of three-division Australian champion Peter Mitrevski Snr, and has been a regular long term sparring partner for Anthony Mundine (a well known former World Champion). Mitrevski has won some minor titles in his 22 professional wins, but wants the more prestigious titles and this is a great opportunity for him not just for the title fight but also to increase his exposure here in the UK. Mitrevski is expected to be focused in his training up to the fight as he will be looking to win the title, something which may have let him down in the past. Mitrevski has 6 career losses (nearly all of which have come when he has stepped up to Australian title level) and ring side reporters have commented on his conditioning being the issue. He also fights between the light middleweight and super middleweight divisions which may play a part, but this could be another disadvantage against Murray who is a big middleweight fighter. However, Mitrevski is a good boxer and a much bigger hitter than his record suggests (he has 10 KO’s, 5 of which have come in his last 9 fights) and with regular sparring against World Class opponents he will be bringing a lot of experience into the ring.
