Boxers are increasingly realising the importance of having a website and the crucial part they can play in managing their online reputation. Some of the more savvy boxers have been early adopters, including heavyweight world champion David Haye (he used MySpace very successfully and now has his own series of websites) and olympic medalist Tony Jeffries (was very quick to setup a site and is very active on Twitter and Facebook), and this has played it’s part in improving their popularity and making them more accessible to their fans.

Martin has been working with Box Pro, specialists in developing websites for boxers and the fight industry, as well as managing their online marketing and social media campaigns. This hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Martin’s site was featured on the How-Do website (How-Do is a leading news website for the media industry within the North West).

Murray featured in St Helens Star

Following Martin’s recent win against Georgian fighter Shalva Jomardashvili, he has once again been featured in the St Helens Star (the local St Helens news website in which he is regularly featured). His lastest win puts his record to 18-0 and in line for a title fight in his next bout, or a title fight eliminator. Either way Martin is getting closer to the prize, and his performance over Jomardashvili (an experienced fighter with a record of 21-1 with 19 KO’s) shows that he is certainly ready for the challenge at this point in his career.

As mentioned in previous posts, likely fights are with British title holder Darren McDermott or an eliminator with the tough, hard hitting Welshman Paul Samuels who is on a comeback trail following 2 good wins against Cello Renda.

Martin Murray: Becoming a Man – BoxRec

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

Browsing the web I’ve just found this article about Martin Murray by writer Chris Walker, published on BoxRec. The article covers the history of Chris Walkers own journey from being a casual boxing fan to becoming a full time boxing junky, as well as Martin’s history as he has followed his career since he fought in the 2004 ABA finals.

The article is interesting and insightful, and definitely worth a read! As well as covering how Martin has developed as person, it describes how this is reflected in his boxing fighting style. Having watched a number of amateur fighters over the years, there are always a few fighters that have stood out as outstanding prospects. Walker says:

“Watching boxers from an early stage in their careers fascinated me, viewing amateurs before they’d even turned over appealed to me more. Jamie Cox, James Degale, Frankie Gavin and Amir Khan are just some of the amazing talents I’ve had the pleasure to have witnessed. Their names amongst many others were firmly established on my outstanding prospect list, but the first name to adorn that scroll before any other them International Medallists was a local boy, his name? Martin Murray.”

Like many boxing fans and pundits, Walker believes that Martin is destined for great things and ends the article by asking the question, “How long before he is The Man?”. Martin is now 17-0 and title opportunities are edging ever closer – we think Martin could be the man much sooner than you might think…
